My Picturetown - Secure Your Memories (and Win a D3100)

Some of you may be familiar with our my Picturetown service, which lets you securely store images online in their original size. We launched the latest version a couple of months back, which has some really cool features – the most popular of which is the ability to organise photos into different online collections then share them on Facebook in only three clicks.

We’ve also added a PhotoMovie function, which lets you create your own slide show accompanied by supporting music to bring those images to life. There’s an iphone app too, which lets you upload pictures to my Picturetown while you’re on the move.

Until the end of March 2011, if you sign up to the service – which is free for up to 2GB of storage – you can be in with a chance of winning a Nikon D3100 D-SLR camera each month. Here’s the registration page which also has a bit more detail on some of the features. (Make sure you use this link to enter the D3100 competition.)

So if you’re planning to take lots of pictures over the Christmas and New Year period, why not check it out. You could be taking your pictures in 2011 on a brand new D3100!

iPhone : Divert your calls

I got my iPhone 3Gs a few months ago. The iPhone is a very tactile phone, but I found that you have to do thing the Apple way.

Most mobile phones have a basic function called "call divert", diverting my calls to another number if I'm busy on a shoot or just unable to answer the call, as I understand it, Apple like you to forward all your call to another number without the phone ringing.

But what if you want your iPhone to ring and then divert to another number if you don't answer it? Well after a few weeks of head scratching, I've worked out, well for UK networks !! (May work on other GSM networks)

First take your iPhone sim card out of your iPhone and put it in another standard GSM phone, ie Nokia 6210, 6310, 6230 etc.

Why? Apple MAY have barred or restricted the code below if typed into your iPhone, as they are network commands, your network will supports the divert.

Now it's way easy:

Divert all calls:
type in **21*DestinationNumber# then press send

Divert on No Answer:
type in **61*DestinationNumber# then press send

Divert on No Network Coverage:
type in **62*DestinationNumber# then press send

Divert on Busy:
type in **67*DestinationNumber# then press send

Tips

re Destination Number, if you type the number in the international format ie 08715030120 becomes +448715030120 it will divert when you are outside the UK, as well is in the UK (Subject to call roaming).

You can have more than one type of divert setup at any one time, each divert can be the same or different termination number.

To change the termination number to another number, just repeat the divert command with a different Destination Number.

To Cancel any divert ##DIVERT CODE# Send, ie ##21#, ##61# ##62#, ##67#.

All diverted call are chargeable, but if you have inclusive or unlimited minutes they will come out of these*

Pay as you go customer, UK network do not allow call divert, it is only for pay monthly customers, Sorry.

Always check your divert, replacing your sim back in your iPhone, making a test call, checking the divert..

Service advisory for Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 lens in Korea

It is my understanding that there MAY be an issue of the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 lens with light leak and it seems that Nikon Korea has responded to this issue.

Nikon Imaging Korea issued this service notice (in English) which basically acknowledge the problem and will fix it for free. I believe that Nikon will provide free 24-70 rentals for the duration of the repair.

No news if Nikon worldwide is issuing this Service advisory.

Powerful Colour Workflow Tool

Colour work flow is very important today, even more when working in RAW, the ColorChecker Passport helps ensure that the colour is captured quickly and correctly every time and gives you a great basis for easy colour editing.

This video from X-Rite watches a live shoot unfold both indoors and on the rooftop as our photographer creates many beautiful images using the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport. They will show you how to overcome the challenges of changing light sources and matching colour to different camera models or brands.

X-Rite ColorChecker Passport helps you ensure accurate colour from capture to edit. With one exposure during the shoot, and a few seconds after the session – you can create custom corrections for any camera and any light source – making consistency simple.

There are two other videos available, Lightroom and Photoshop workflows. This video demonstrates the process in Adobe Lightroom. If you use Photoshop click here to watch this video.

Download sample images as demonstrated in video to use in Lightroom.

Download Free ColorChecker Passport Software(requires above sample images or ColorChecker Classic card).

I how how used the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport in conjunction with their ColorMonkey for some 18 months now, it's the best and so easy !!!

Got an iPhone

Just changed by mobile phone from the HTC Hero to Apple iPhone 3Gs 32gb version.

While I LOVE my Hero and the operating system Android is very stable, I found the number of apps in the Market Place, where limited.

Being a Salesforce Mobile user I wanted to have full mobile functionality, which is available on the iPhone, Blackberry and Window mobile platforms.
